How does 2010 look so far for you? As 2010 approaches fast, we will be ready in time to make the first sportsman series race at Black Rock Speedway. We will be running the same body design we ran at 2009 Super Dirt Week.
What changes are you making for this season? We are going to run a 2008 Troyer Max Flex, newer than the frame we ran last two years. We have a couple other upgraded items for 2010.
Was 2009 the season you wanted? The 2009 season was a year was not the best year, but the worst either. We had a couple of feature wins. Learned a lot, and finished in the top 5 at our home track, and finished 5th on the Sportsman series.
What is the strongest part of your team going into 2010? Knowing we have the team and equipment to win races and championships.
Where do you feel you need to improve? Need to improve on watching the track and making the right adjustments on the car the match the track conditions.
What is your weekly maintenance schedule like at the shop? Weekly maintenance starts with taking off the complete body and washing the car, nut and bolt thoroughly, looking for any problems and cracks. Testing all shocks, putting the body on, and scale the car. It takes a minimum of three nights.
Do you feel it is tougher to win a race or run for the championship? I found that its tougher to win championships. I have won numerous races within a year and have been very close to winning championships. It takes a lot of good finishes and some luck.
You have been racing for several years now. Do you see yourself doing this for a while? If so, do you see yourself going further in racing? I have had a lot of great years running sportsman with Monroe Wheelchair. I plan on racing as long I still have the passion for it. I would like to have the chance to move up to Big Block modifieds or Late Models.
Do you plan on traveling to any races other than your home track(s) this coming year? I will be racing all the races at my home track (Canandaigua), I will be at all the Rolling Wheels Raceway races and I am also planning on running the sportsman series.
You have had some great sponsors for your teams in previous years. Has the recession hurt your team for this year, or has it allowed you to take some different direction in marketing? We have a great relationship with Monroe Wheelchair and are very pleased to have the opportunity to run our sixth year together. We have associate sponsors that will also be returning for the 2010 season.
How big is family with you and your race team? I have been fortunate to have the best family and friend support. If you are at a race at Canandaigua or Rolling Wheels Raceway, it is not very hard to find my family and friend section.
What would it mean to win the championship in 2010? It be great to win the championship in 2010, we have been working hard all winter long and have had our share of years that we have came close.
Any Hobbies outside of racing? I enjoy boating, water sports, skiing, and spending time with my family.
Any Special notes you want to share? I would like to thank Monroe Wheelchair for supporting our team for the sixth year, and allowing us to do what we love. I want to thank my team for all their hard work this winter and the upcoming season. I would like to thank my fans, family and friends for all their support. Team History: With the assurance of a family friend that all it took to race Microds was “a little gas and a little oil” Dan took his first steps in a storied racing career at the age of nine. Quickly advancing through the ranks, Wiesner found himself behind the wheel of a Pure Stock before he even had a driver’s license, honing his skills in a full size car with each race.
After numerous feature wins against local veterans, a jump to the Pro Stock class found Dan back in victory lane and waiting for the opportunity to try his hand at open wheel racing. The 2001 season was the debut of the familiar number 66 in the Sportsman division at Canandaigua Speedway, a year in which Wiesner not only proved he was comfortable with or without fenders, but also began taking steps to build a stronger team for the future.
With the additional support of Monroe Wheelchair beginning in 2005 the team began to set even higher goals for themselves, wanting not only to win races, but to be the car to beat in each and every feature. 2007 looks to be promising season for the entire Monroe Wheelchair Racing team, with the addition of a full touring schedule. Watch for the 66 this year as it brings a heightened sense of competition to tracks throughout the Northeast and attempts to put the “Sit Proud” logo in victory lane yet again. |
